State-owned NLC India plans to bid for Indian railways’ solar projects. The statement comes from Union Minister Piyush Goyal. The Indian railway is preparing itself to hold a bidding auction for the solar expansion project. Information comes that NLC India is planning aggressively to win the contract through the bidding.
NLC India has now become a serious player in the renewable energy sector and has invested heavily in solar projects. Now, their target is the Indian railways’ solar project. There are ongoing talks between railways and the company for some time.
The company started its endeavor into renewable energy sector with its first project of 140MW solar photo voltaic plant situated at Neyveli and second, a 51MW wind energy plant in Tamil Nadu.
Indian railways already have 191MW today, by March it will become 300MW and by 2025 they want to achieve the target of 4,251 MW. This would be equal to 24 percent of their 13,700MW requirement, delivered by renewable energy. The Union Minster also requested West Bengal government to give approval to transfer the DVC’s Raghunathpur power project to NLC India.
NLC India has been waiting for two years to get the Raghunathpur power project and discussions have been killing time. The company believes that if the plant was given to them 2 years ago, they would have started the plant by now and it would have been serving the people of India already. The request made by Union Minister might catalyze the process and expedite the transfer process.
